About The Author

How do animals and insects hide in plain sight? Rabbits turn white in the winter so they blend in with the snow, and green caterpillars look like the green leaves they crawl on and eat. In scenic Southern Utah where I live, a creature would have to be orange-red to hide among the world-famous rock formations. Camouflage is one aspect of nature that I learned as my mother read and sang to me and my closest sisters as young children. Those earliest memories are treasures to me. I quickly came to love the way books could entertain and teach, and reading became my favorite pastime. It was a constant as my family moved several times during my growing-up years. When I was old enough, I cared for younger siblings, babysat for others, and eventually had my own children. I have worked in public school classrooms for over 25 years and have enjoyed getting to know many students of all ages during that time. And then there are my grandchildren. My favorite thing to do with any of these children has been to read them stories. Some of the children have inspired stories in me. We can all learn from each other and from nature, and I have always wanted to share what I have learned through stories.
